Privacy Policy
1. The short version
We collect what you send us to design your room — your name, email, room details and photos — plus what's needed to place an order if you ask us to. We use it to do the design work and talk to you about it. We share it with the service providers and retailers required to make that happen, and with nobody else. We don't sell it, we don't run ad trackers, and you can ask us to delete it at any time by emailing privacy@whutzthat.com.
The sections below spell all of that out properly. This summary isn't a substitute for them, but it is an accurate description of what we do.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- The start form: your name, email address, the room you're working on, the style you're drawn to, and whatever you write in the optional notes field.
- About your space: photos you send us, measurements, floor plans, notes about how you use the room, pieces you're keeping, and any budget you mention.
- Correspondence: emails and messages between you and your designer, including your feedback on concepts.
- Order details: if you ask us to place an order, the shipping address, phone number and delivery instructions needed to complete it.
A note about payment information
Payment for products is handled by the brand or retailer fulfilling your order, or through their payment processor. We do not store your full payment card number. If a purchase ever requires us to collect payment details directly, we'll tell you at the time and explain how they're handled.
Photos of your home
Photos of a room can reveal more than furniture — documents on a desk, mail, family photographs, medical equipment, other people. Please take a moment to look at what's in frame before you send. We only need to see the space and the pieces in it, and you're welcome to move or crop out anything you'd rather we not have.
3. What's collected automatically
Like most websites, ours produces server logs. Our hosting provider records standard technical information when a page is requested — IP address, browser and device type, referring page, and the time of the request. This is used to keep the site running, diagnose errors and detect abuse.
This site loads fonts from Google Fonts. When your browser fetches them, Google receives your IP address and information about your browser. That's a consequence of how web fonts are served, and Google's handling of it is governed by Google's privacy policy.
5. How we use it
We use the information described above to:
- Prepare design concepts for your space and revise them based on your feedback
- Identify products that fit your room, your brief and your budget
- Communicate with you about your project and answer your questions
- Place and track orders you've asked us to place, and help resolve problems with them
- Operate, secure, troubleshoot and improve the service
- Keep records we need for tax, accounting and legal obligations
- Send you occasional email about the service, if you've asked for it
We don't use your information for automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
6. AI processing
Our design concepts are generated with the help of AI tools. This means the information you send us about your space — including photos, measurements and your written notes — may be transmitted to and processed by third-party AI providers we use to build those concepts.
We choose providers under agreements that limit their use of that information to delivering the service to us. If you'd rather your photos not be processed this way, tell your designer and we'll work from measurements and written description instead — it takes longer, and the concepts are less tailored, but it's a real option.
8. We don't sell your data
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under California law. We have not done so in the preceding twelve months. We don't rent or trade your contact details to anyone, and we don't hand your information to brands for their own marketing.
9. How long we keep it
- Project material — photos, concepts and correspondence: kept while your project is active and for up to two years afterward, so we can pick a project back up or answer questions about what we specified. Delete it sooner by asking us.
- Order records — kept as long as needed for warranty, return and tax purposes, generally seven years.
- Inquiries that never became projects — deleted within twelve months.
- Server logs — retained on our host's standard schedule, typically a matter of weeks.
10. Security
The site is served over HTTPS, and we limit access to project material to the people who need it to do the work. We use reputable vendors and keep the amount of information we collect small on purpose — the less we hold, the less there is to lose.
That said, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your personal information, we'll notify you as required by law.
11. Your choices and rights
Whoever and wherever you are, you can email privacy@whutzthat.com and ask us to:
- Tell you what personal information we hold about you
- Give you a copy of it
- Correct anything that's wrong
- Delete it
- Stop sending you email
We'll respond within 45 days. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request — usually by confirming you control the email address on the account. We may keep information we're legally required to retain, such as order and tax records, and we'll tell you if that applies.
You will never be charged, denied service, or given a lesser experience for exercising any of these rights.
12. California privacy rights
If you're a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA gives you specific rights: to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose; to access and receive a copy of it; to correct inaccurate information; to delete it; to opt out of its sale or sharing; and to limit the use of sensitive personal information.
Two of those need no action from you: as stated in section 8, we do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. And we do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes beyond providing the service, so the right to limit doesn't come into play.
In the preceding twelve months we have collected the categories of personal information described in section 2 — identifiers, customer records, commercial information, internet activity information, and visual information in the photographs you send us — for the purposes described in section 5, from the sources described in sections 2 and 3, and disclosed them for business purposes to the categories of recipients listed in section 7.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@whutzthat.com. You may use an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf; we'll ask for proof of their authority. If we deny a request you may appeal by replying to our response.
13. Children
The service is intended for adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email privacy@whutzthat.com and we'll delete it.
14. Changes to this policy
We'll update this policy as the service changes. When we do, we'll revise the effective date at the top of the page. If a change materially affects how we handle information we already hold about you, we'll make a reasonable effort to tell you directly — by email if we have your address — before it takes effect.
